Frequently Asked Questions
We figured you might have a few questions, so here’s everything we’d want to know if we were in your shoes.
Why are you doing this?
Honestly, because it sounded like fun and because it’s a good way to say thank you. We’ve been taking care of homes around Shreveport and Bossier since 2009, and we see some seriously old equipment out there, still grinding through Louisiana summers that would put most systems in the ground. We thought it would be a blast to find the oldest one and give its owner a fresh start.
How do I enter?
The easiest way is online at SBCair.com. It takes about two minutes, and all you need is your contact info and your best guess at how old your system is. Not a fan of forms? Give us a call at (318) 465-0853 and we’ll enter you right over the phone. And if one of our techs happens to be out at your place for something else in October, just ask them and they’ll get you entered there. Any of the three works, and you only need to do it once.
Does it really cost nothing?
Really, truly nothing. Entering is free, the visit is free, and there’s no catch hiding in the fine print. We’re not asking you to buy anything, sign up for anything, or commit to anything. You don’t even have to be an SBC customer.
What happens at the verification visit?
One of our technicians swings by, finds the manufacture date on your equipment, and tells you exactly how old your system is, which honestly most folks have never known. While they’re there, they’ll also give your system a free inspection: a good look over the whole thing plus electrical testing, so you know how it’s holding up. Plan on about an hour. There’s no charge for any of it.
What does the free inspection include?
A visual inspection of your system and electrical testing, including voltage and amperage readings. It doesn’t include coil or condenser cleaning, repairs or parts. If our tech spots anything worth knowing about, they’ll tell you, and if you’d like a quote for it, just ask.
Will someone try to sell me something?
No, and we mean that. Our tech is there to find out how old your system is and give it a look over, and that’s the whole job. If they notice something you’d want to know about, they’ll mention it, because we’d want someone to tell us. But there’s no pitch, no pressure, and what you do with that information is completely up to you.
My system is on its last legs. Can I replace it now and still be in the running?
Yes, you can. We just need to verify and photograph your current system before it comes out, since that’s the one your entry is based on. If you replace it with us and then turn out to be the winner, we’ll refund what you paid for the new unit and its standard installation, up to the value of the prize. The refund doesn’t cover any financing interest or fees, so if you finance, those stay with you. And to be clear, buying a system doesn’t improve your odds one bit. It’s there for folks who can’t wait, not as a reason to buy.
Do I need to be home for the visit?
Yes, someone will need to be there to let our tech in and show them where the equipment is. We’ll work with you to find a time that fits your schedule.
I have no idea how old my system is. Can I still enter?
Absolutely, and you’re in good company. Most people don’t know, which is exactly why there’s an “I have no idea” option on the form. In our experience, those are often the oldest systems out there, so please don’t let it stop you. That’s what the visit is for.
My system is really old but it still works fine. Should I bother?
Yes, please do! A system can run for years past its prime without giving you any obvious trouble. That’s actually what makes this fun, some of the oldest equipment we find is still humming along. Your system just needs to be working, it doesn’t need to be struggling.
Do I have to own my home?
Yes, this one is just for homeowners who live in the home. We know that’s a bummer if you rent, and we’re sorry about that. Since the prize is a full system installation, it really needs to be the owner’s call.
If I win, what kind of system would I get?
You’d get a brand new heating and cooling system, professionally installed by our team. We’ll choose the right equipment for your home based on its size and what it needs, the same way we would for any of our customers. We’ll walk you through everything before we start.
Is there anything I should know if I win?
Just one thing worth mentioning so it’s never a surprise. A prize like this counts as income for tax purposes, so the winner will receive a tax form for its value. It’s a good idea to have a quick chat with your tax person. We’ll be upfront about all of it.
What if I don’t win?
You’ve already got something out of it. Everyone who completes their verification visit gets that free inspection right then and there, so you’ll know exactly how old your system is and how it’s holding up.
When will you announce the winner?
We’ll announce the winner on Friday, October 30. If it’s you, we’ll reach out directly by phone and email, so keep an eye out.
Can I enter more than once?
It’s one entry per household. If you happen to enter online and one of our techs also enters you, don’t worry about it at all. We’ll sort that out on our end and you won’t lose your spot.
What happens to my information?
We use it to run the giveaway and to stay in touch with you about it. We may also reach out now and then about our services, and you can opt out anytime. You can read our full privacy policy at SBCair.com/privacy-policy.
Who can I talk to if I have questions?
Give us a call at (318) 465-0853 and our team will be glad to help. We’re always happy to talk.
